History 2/2
The first round she was in, Round Two, was also her first round as a Player. She ended up picking up Kotaro and a few others. Unfortunately, Conquest lost, so this was also her first experience with the agony beam..er, warning penalty, that hit those who had lost, or, in this case, hit all the Players period, and got worse for the ones who had lost. Round three was better, with the school winning, but after that it wasn’t so easy any more. Not being experienced with anything but shields and lances (due to loss of memories and skills from MLJJ), she ended up losing more often than not, and so developed a bit of a hair-trigger response when it came to headaches. Still, she tried her hardest...she taught every school day when there weren’t battles, helping Cirno and Kotaro and a few others she allowed herself to get close to to obtain memory charms and such. She regained all her memory charms and abilities, but it still felt like something was wrong, like something was missing. Also, Conquest was hell.
The place wasn’t exactly kind to the Sentinel; as mentioned previously, she ended up losing more often than not, even passing out once from the headache, but the fact that it seemed like there was no purpose, that it was for entertainment, a game...that weighed on her. It wasn’t even like true battle; all the pain and possibly more, from blows and abilities, but no real damage. Being shyer, she also kept more to a small group of people, and though she didn’t dislike many of her fellow students, she did come to dislike Santana and Day more than a bit, Santana being the worse of the two, berating and not caring who was hurt by her words or actions.
Around June is when things went downhill more. In March she achieved the Outbreak condition and gained Prefect status, Cirno following soon after. But it wasn’t long after that that she also
passed out, ending up in a coma for at some five or so months, before disappearing back to Crimea. A summary of her time back in Crimea can be found here. After a month there, she was brought back to Equestria. All told, on her timeline, she was gone roughly a year.
Returning to Equestria, Nephenee quickly went back to her duties, though not without some new baggage from her experiences. Adding to it was the appearance of Cirno, and helping her deal with her trauma, along with the disappearance of Utsusemimaru and its impact on Mae, who had started seeing him, and Dante being…well, Dante, and disappearing after letting Homura possess him (he was ‘rescued’ not long after). So Nephenee was Nephenee, putting herself into her work so much that she collapsed. This time, though, she swore to not let it happen again, and took a short vacation to recuperate, finally going into more detail with what transpired in Rakuen with Morgan after suffering a headache in her sleep that brought nightmares. The trip calmed her, helping her to see that, while she might not be sure of many things after her time there and her time away from the place she had once called home, she at least had a place here, and people who needed her. For now, that was enough.
Not long after, the Equestria Games’ awards ceremony brought the Pale Pony into the limelight, and the Princesses, with the help of Zetta, of all people, brought her out again in a show of defiance. During the ‘takeover’ the Overlord had played at, Nephenee went down to the dungeons with her friends, to a level she’d found had a few places she’d fought in, in an effort to channel her anger at Zetta ‘kidnapping’ some of their friends. But instead of a normal battlefield, or even the Tower of Guidance, as they’d discovered before, they found themselves in a dark, dank dungeon. To them, it was merely empty, and mostly silent. To the Sentinel, it was filled with the sounds of rats, chains, and hollow echoes. It was where she’d been imprisoned at the beginning of the first war, as a young woman, scared and unsure of the future: Canteus Castle. Despite her fear and memories shaping what she sensed, her friends encourage her, and together, they searched the place, just to see if there was anyone here. The places where Sephiran, Brom, and Kieran were empty, but approaching where she’d been kept, there was more activity: soldiers guarding the cell, taunting the one inside. Knocking them out, Nephenee hesitantly stepped into the cell..and saw a young, scared blue mare, huddled in the darkness, with no cutie mark, no weapons, just a light set of armor that looked as if it’d been cobbled together in a hurry. Herself. Carefully approaching the girl, she listened to the mare’s fears, her thoughts about herself, and reassured the younger her, telling her about all the great things that she’d do i the future, all the friends she’d make, how strong she’d become. She led the younger version out of the cell, but having figured this was a test of her strength, instead of merely leaving the area, they faced down the warden of the prison. It was a rough battle, her fears still shaping things, when her own words clicked with her about how far she’d come, and that she didn’t need to be afraid of this place or anything it represented. t was the key needed to defeat their opponent, and the younger mare struck the blow that brought Danomill to his knees.
Instead of defeating the ‘shadow’, though, Nephenee realized that wasn’t truly what was needed to move on. It wasn’t just the strength of body needed...it was more than that. And so rather than defeating it by violence, she forgave the warden and the guards - not to say their jeers and the psychological pain they’d inflicted was alright, but to say that it no longer would have a hold on her. The enemies vanished, and she sent her friends through the exit, walking the younger version of herself through last. Finally smiling for once, the girl gave her a hug, and vanished. Exhausted, the older mare flopped to her haunches, embraced by her loved ones, and for once, she felt more at peace regarding her past than she had in a long time.
After that, everything was mostly quiet, aside from a week of body swapping. And Bertie setting things on fire again. And a little thing about confessing love to her boyfriend. You know, quiet little things.
Along came another copy of Tails, however, and he changed things once more. Upon Nephenee’s greeting him, he informed her that he knew her from another world, and based on the information he gave her, it seemed to indeed be her. This troubled her, and she spent some time being somewhat aimless, despite her trying to reassure others she was fine. With their help, she recovered, learning that she shouldn’t let what could be affect her, and that she should live to the fullest despite it.
Shortly after the beginning of the new year, Nephenee vanished again, indeed going to the world Tails had described, a version of the Pokémon world, and to the region of Kalos. As for wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey reasons she didn’t know yet that Tails and her had met, she started off worried that she’d not see her family and friends again. Still, the presence of the Fluttershy from the digital world comforted her somewhat, and wit her new starter, a Mareep named Chrysanthemum, and her new friends Tails and Sonic, she traveled, gathering Pokemon and winning the first of the badges for the region. Her new friends gave her hope regarding the future, and so she was a bit more cheerful after the first badge. In December, a figure known as Nightmare appeared, creating a portal to a graveyard dimension they ended up having to escape from and close. Later, they were trapped in nightmares created by the creature. Nephenee’s own involved returning to Equestria and finding her loved ones slain in her absence. Through the pain she experienced and almost being seriously injured by a enemy taking on the form of her Shadow, she was helped by her friends as they found their way into her nightmare, and she struck down the enemy, breaking the nightmare she was trapped in, before they went on to defeat Nightmare once and for all. It was shortly afterwards they learned that some of their present problems were being orchestrated by none other than Eggman, who’d found himself in this dimension as well and decided to use the situation to benefit himself.
And it is here that Nephenee’s chapter in Equestria is resumed.
