History 1/2
I’ll be copying in from Nephenee’s original app, to show what’s happened since versus then.
But first, the prerequisite three links summarizing her in the canon games (Awakening is not included).
“Little is known about Nephenee’s history prior to Path of Radiance. Originally from Ohma village, Nephenee lived with her mother and siblings -2 sisters, triplet brothers- and, like the rest of the village, supported her family by tilling the spoil and reaping its fruit. Up until the war between Crimea and Daein, her life seems to have been fairly calm. However, prior to the harvest season one year, Daein suddenly attacked the Crimean capital of Melior, beginning the events of Path of Radiance. In preparation to defend their village, a local militia was put together, which Nephenee joined in order to defend her family and livelihood. It was there that she met fellow villager Brom, who she would serve beside in the Greil Mercenaries later. However, unlike the mercenary group they would serve in later, this militia was quite ill-prepared, as it was put together right after war broke out, and consisted entirely of farmers and villagers, with no experience in battle. It was so ill-prepared, in fact, that we learn that they only learned to stand for roll call, had to share equipment, and when they marched, people got lost or fled. But Nephenee and Brom went on, to fight for their village. One fateful day, the militia was engaged by Daein troops, and Nephenee and Brom were helped in some way by the bishop Sephiran. However, the three were captured by the enemy, and imprisoned in Canteus Castle, where they stayed until they and another prisoner, Kieran, were rescued by Ike and his band of mercenaries. Meeting with Princess Elincia, Ike took them all aside and asked if they are willing to recognize Elincia as the Princess of Crimea (as she was unknown to many before), and to fight for her in their mercenary band. Brom responded by saying that royalty and who ruled didn't seem to affect them much since they're mostly left alone under what had been the current rule. He quickly added, though, that Ashnard could take away their fields and lands, taking away their way of sustaining their families, which is why they joined the militia- to protect their loved ones and their livelihood. Thinking of her own family, Nephenee asked, "If you can defeat the king of Daein, will this country return to the way it used to be? Is that what you're after?" Elincia assureed them that she will never abandon her kingdom, despite not being as strong as her father. Brom and Nephenee agree that she seems that she will keep her word, and both join up to restore her to power, as well as to thank Ike for saving their lives. Traveling in the band, which later became known as the Crimean Liberation Army, Nephenee fought with her lance and shield and gained battle and life experience, until Ashnard was finally put down, and Elincia became queen of the realm. After the war, she returned to her family, boasting of serving the queen, and fighting under the great Commander Ike.
All was well for several years. Nephenee went back to working the fields of the Crimean countryside, her armor and weapons ever at the ready in case of need. A good thing too, as three years after the country was liberated, a man named Yeardley came to Ohma and stirred
the youth of the village, in an attempt to put Ludveck, the duke of Felirae, on the throne. Seeing the crowd and incited youth, Nephenee quickly donned her armor and grabbed war buddy Brom. Together with the thief Heather, they defeated the rebellious youth and Yeardley, and set out to warn Elincia of the impending rebellion, joining back up with Ike eventually to stop it for good, as well as stopping a corrupt Begnion, and defeating the goddess Ashera. After the war ended, Nephenee moved her family to Melior, where she continued to protect her country.
Sometime after she moved her family and farm, Nephenee came across an injured white dog, and, having a good knowledge of animals, she nursed her back to health. The dog decided to stick around, and Neph named her Daisy.”
I also will add in that during the year between her arrival in Equestria and the end of the second game, Nephenee became a teacher, instructing possible soldiers in the art of the lance, and sometimes worked in the Queen’s Guard when extra hands were needed, when she didn’t need to run missions or take her more advanced students out and gain real experience for them against brigands that attacked villages.
So was Nephenee’s history before her arrival in Equestria. Like virtually all who arrive in this new place, the young woman was rather alarmed to see that instead of a tall, lean-muscled human (Beorc, as they are known in Tellius), she had turned into a tall, lean-muscled, blue-furred earth pony! Still, being a soldier somewhat acquainted with strange happenings, though not on this scale, she recovered fairly quickly, learning how to use the scroll and introducing herself, and gaining a few new acquiantances, and some knowledge of how they came to be here. Before she took Bertie up on his idea of moving into the Commune, however, Nephenee decided it might behoove her to explore the land for a time, coming back to the area shortly before the annual Running of the Leaves. Surprisingly, the mare even managed to place third in it! Around now was when she and her dog officially moved into the Commune, as their main farmer, a decision that would influence a lot of things later on.
For the first bit after her moving in until shortly before Nightmare Night, things weren’t as quiet as they might have been, especially for a certain future brother-figure (BERTIE) accidentally setting the Commune on fire, though she did take to her new job quickly enough, and made many new acquaintances.
Nightmare Night, however, started off a string of events that would shape her forever. Originally just going with her friend Utsusemimaru to the festivities, all turned for the worse when one calling herself Nightmare Moon possessed one of the Twilight Sparkles, and created nightmares to trap her would-be rescuers in. Nephenee’s own saw the land of Crimea and its Queen and Ike felled by the Black Knight, Zelgius, and she was nearly killed in that plane, broken out of it with Utsusemimaru’s help. The nightmares coalesced into the form of Zelgius, and with a lot of work, the two banished it, before rushing to try to help the others rescue Twilight. In the end, the unicorn was saved, though Nephenee, in a form still unfamiliar to her, was barely able to help, only able to aid in the aftermath. To that end, shortly after that night, Nephenee called for aid in learning new techniques and training partners, which shaped her future further. Gaining the help and friendships of many that are now very close to her (Crmsn, Dante, Morgan, Gwen, Joshua, and others), she started honing her skills on a higher level than she had before now.
The next event is quite possibly one of the more momentous occasions in Equestria for the mare, in terms of her growth. In early December, a fog came upon Ponyville, causing beings known as Shadows to emerge. The hidden away parts of individuals - things that people believed or thought, but never allowed to come to light, they created havoc for the inhabitants of the town, threatening to kill their hosts or others, and in some cases, succeeding. Nephenee’s first encounter with one was with the Shadow of Bertie, someone she had grown close to, and in some ways, harbored feelings for. Drawing from the Englishman’s feelings of ineptitude as to her and Gwen managing to do things that he, as a man, could not, with his old-fashioned view regarding the sexes, it attacked her verbally, calling attention to her accent –something she’d not gotten over her feelings about at the time-, her working the fields and being a soldier, and just her in general. Angry and feeling betrayed, she retaliated, before realizing her words, and shrinking back, she apologized, which gave it the drive to rip her apart further, going so far as to say that her jobs as farmer and fighter, and her shy personality, were too much for any man to wish to romance her (another weak point). Finally unable to hear anymore, Nephenee turned tail, running from the place. Even so, barely a day later, she returned to the Commune, intending to speak with him again, when she saw Pollo’s Shadow – or rather his other personality-, Mechakara, kill the real Bertie. With the help of Liz, Jeeves, and several others, they put down the Shadow, and learned of Pollo’s death at Mechakara’s hands.
The betrayal and pain the lancer felt when dealing with Bertie’s Shadow unleashed her own, and it wasn’t long before she found it. Resting after giving some shadows the slip, her own Shadow appeared, taunting her, and leading Gwen, Patchouli, Utsusemimaru, and Maebhrin to see her downfall. Its words to her friends finally got the mare to deny that it was a part of her, and that’s when it went berserk, changing from a mare in broken armor to its true form, chaining her, and attacking them. The battle was long and hard, as Shadow Nephenee was fueled by many years of pent up negative beliefs about herself and others, but as defeat edged ever closer, the four of them shouting encouragement to her to try to break her out of the dark place she was in mentally, something snapped in her. It was a surge of anger and tenacity she’d not experienced in a long time, seeing her friends being hurt so badly by it, and with the knowledge that past the exaggerations, the Shadow was right about her, she threw her helmet at one of the legs of the beast, sending it sprawling to the ground and enabling them to gang up on it. Her newfound Strength pulsing in her veins, she broke the chain, and delivered the final blow. It was now that she finally stood up to long held beliefs, and hugged the Shadow form, acknowledging those weaknesses with “…ya really are me.” It transformed into a card of the Strength Arcana, granting Nephenee her Persona, Pallas Athena. Now empowered by her trial, she apologized to her friends, and went on to help some of them with their Shadows, ultimately joining in the battle against Yu’s Shadow, and helping them emerge victorious.
After the week of hell was over, the Sentinel helped put together a funeral for Bertie and Pollo, which…well, was crashed by the two coming back to life all of a sudden, to their friends’ delight. Like others, she spoke of her experience, and what she’d learned and discovered through it, over the network, and, surprisingly, ended up being asked out by a certain future love. Now realizing that maybe she was worth that sort of attention, she accepted.
The next several months were a whirlwind of events: the end of December and the beginning of the next year had Chrysalis trying to take over, in March, there was a theft from the gryphons that had to be investigated, and an evil Celestia tried to take over, and in April everyone returned to their normal selves for a week! During this time, she was able to see a friend from Tellius, Calill, and met a young fairy by the name of Cirno, who said she’d met her in another world. While Nephenee didn’t remember this, she befriended the girl (again?), taking care of her for her time in Equestria until the week was over. May, however, was a different matter. Not long after the Gala, Nephenee vanished in rainbow light for three Equstrian days...
Which brings us to Rakuen.
History 2/2
The first round she was in, Round Two, was also her first round as a Player. She ended up picking up Kotaro and a few others. Unfortunately, Conquest lost, so this was also her first experience with the agony beam..er, warning penalty, that hit those who had lost, or, in this case, hit all the Players period, and got worse for the ones who had lost. Round three was better, with the school winning, but after that it wasn’t so easy any more. Not being experienced with anything but shields and lances (due to loss of memories and skills from MLJJ), she ended up losing more often than not, and so developed a bit of a hair-trigger response when it came to headaches. Still, she tried her hardest...she taught every school day when there weren’t battles, helping Cirno and Kotaro and a few others she allowed herself to get close to to obtain memory charms and such. She regained all her memory charms and abilities, but it still felt like something was wrong, like something was missing. Also, Conquest was hell.
The place wasn’t exactly kind to the Sentinel; as mentioned previously, she ended up losing more often than not, even passing out once from the headache, but the fact that it seemed like there was no purpose, that it was for entertainment, a game...that weighed on her. It wasn’t even like true battle; all the pain and possibly more, from blows and abilities, but no real damage. Being shyer, she also kept more to a small group of people, and though she didn’t dislike many of her fellow students, she did come to dislike Santana and Day more than a bit, Santana being the worse of the two, berating and not caring who was hurt by her words or actions.
Around June is when things went downhill more. In March she achieved the Outbreak condition and gained Prefect status, Cirno following soon after. But it wasn’t long after that that she also
passed out, ending up in a coma for at some five or so months, before disappearing back to Crimea. A summary of her time back in Crimea can be found here. After a month there, she was brought back to Equestria. All told, on her timeline, she was gone roughly a year.
Returning to Equestria, Nephenee quickly went back to her duties, though not without some new baggage from her experiences. Adding to it was the appearance of Cirno, and helping her deal with her trauma, along with the disappearance of Utsusemimaru and its impact on Mae, who had started seeing him, and Dante being…well, Dante, and disappearing after letting Homura possess him (he was ‘rescued’ not long after). So Nephenee was Nephenee, putting herself into her work so much that she collapsed. This time, though, she swore to not let it happen again, and took a short vacation to recuperate, finally going into more detail with what transpired in Rakuen with Morgan after suffering a headache in her sleep that brought nightmares. The trip calmed her, helping her to see that, while she might not be sure of many things after her time there and her time away from the place she had once called home, she at least had a place here, and people who needed her. For now, that was enough.
Not long after, the Equestria Games’ awards ceremony brought the Pale Pony into the limelight, and the Princesses, with the help of Zetta, of all people, brought her out again in a show of defiance. During the ‘takeover’ the Overlord had played at, Nephenee went down to the dungeons with her friends, to a level she’d found had a few places she’d fought in, in an effort to channel her anger at Zetta ‘kidnapping’ some of their friends. But instead of a normal battlefield, or even the Tower of Guidance, as they’d discovered before, they found themselves in a dark, dank dungeon. To them, it was merely empty, and mostly silent. To the Sentinel, it was filled with the sounds of rats, chains, and hollow echoes. It was where she’d been imprisoned at the beginning of the first war, as a young woman, scared and unsure of the future: Canteus Castle. Despite her fear and memories shaping what she sensed, her friends encourage her, and together, they searched the place, just to see if there was anyone here. The places where Sephiran, Brom, and Kieran were empty, but approaching where she’d been kept, there was more activity: soldiers guarding the cell, taunting the one inside. Knocking them out, Nephenee hesitantly stepped into the cell..and saw a young, scared blue mare, huddled in the darkness, with no cutie mark, no weapons, just a light set of armor that looked as if it’d been cobbled together in a hurry. Herself. Carefully approaching the girl, she listened to the mare’s fears, her thoughts about herself, and reassured the younger her, telling her about all the great things that she’d do i the future, all the friends she’d make, how strong she’d become. She led the younger version out of the cell, but having figured this was a test of her strength, instead of merely leaving the area, they faced down the warden of the prison. It was a rough battle, her fears still shaping things, when her own words clicked with her about how far she’d come, and that she didn’t need to be afraid of this place or anything it represented. t was the key needed to defeat their opponent, and the younger mare struck the blow that brought Danomill to his knees.
Instead of defeating the ‘shadow’, though, Nephenee realized that wasn’t truly what was needed to move on. It wasn’t just the strength of body needed...it was more than that. And so rather than defeating it by violence, she forgave the warden and the guards - not to say their jeers and the psychological pain they’d inflicted was alright, but to say that it no longer would have a hold on her. The enemies vanished, and she sent her friends through the exit, walking the younger version of herself through last. Finally smiling for once, the girl gave her a hug, and vanished. Exhausted, the older mare flopped to her haunches, embraced by her loved ones, and for once, she felt more at peace regarding her past than she had in a long time.
After that, everything was mostly quiet, aside from a week of body swapping. And Bertie setting things on fire again. And a little thing about confessing love to her boyfriend. You know, quiet little things.
Along came another copy of Tails, however, and he changed things once more. Upon Nephenee’s greeting him, he informed her that he knew her from another world, and based on the information he gave her, it seemed to indeed be her. This troubled her, and she spent some time being somewhat aimless, despite her trying to reassure others she was fine. With their help, she recovered, learning that she shouldn’t let what could be affect her, and that she should live to the fullest despite it.
Shortly after the beginning of the new year, Nephenee vanished again, indeed going to the world Tails had described, a version of the Pokémon world, and to the region of Kalos. As for wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey reasons she didn’t know yet that Tails and her had met, she started off worried that she’d not see her family and friends again. Still, the presence of the Fluttershy from the digital world comforted her somewhat, and wit her new starter, a Mareep named Chrysanthemum, and her new friends Tails and Sonic, she traveled, gathering Pokemon and winning the first of the badges for the region. Her new friends gave her hope regarding the future, and so she was a bit more cheerful after the first badge. In December, a figure known as Nightmare appeared, creating a portal to a graveyard dimension they ended up having to escape from and close. Later, they were trapped in nightmares created by the creature. Nephenee’s own involved returning to Equestria and finding her loved ones slain in her absence. Through the pain she experienced and almost being seriously injured by a enemy taking on the form of her Shadow, she was helped by her friends as they found their way into her nightmare, and she struck down the enemy, breaking the nightmare she was trapped in, before they went on to defeat Nightmare once and for all. It was shortly afterwards they learned that some of their present problems were being orchestrated by none other than Eggman, who’d found himself in this dimension as well and decided to use the situation to benefit himself.
And it is here that Nephenee’s chapter in Equestria is resumed.
Personality
As before, I’ll be adding in her section from the original app.
“Shy, dependable, strong: such words undoubtedly describe Nephenee. Originally, she was even more softspoken for fear of being mocked for her strong country accent, but in the intervening time, she gained quite a bit of confidence in her speech as she strives to become more refined. This was helped not only by fighting alongside people from far away that didn’t ridicule her for her accent, but also by her friends Brom and Calill, who once was from the country herself. Seeing Calill’s refined mannerisms gave Nephenee the drive to work on herself. After all, if Calill could do it, why couldn’t she? By the time Radiant Dawn rolls around, it’s apparent she has gained quite a bit of confidence in herself, both on the battlefield -her lance impaling the enemy easily, though she gains no pleasure from killing- and off. It’s safe to say, though, that while she has come a long way from the quiet young lady she was in Path of Radiance, she is in no danger of over-confidence any time soon. She still hides her face often, whether with a helmet, or perhaps a hat.
It should be mentioned, however, that the shyness doesn’t apply to the battlefield. Really at all. When she is fighting, the shyness retreats quickly, and she becomes extremely focused, brave, and capable of wiping out enemy after enemy. By the endgame, it is entirely possible for her to take out a full-blown dragon within a few hits. But it should be noted that she really doesn’t enjoy killing. It is a necessary evil in her mind, and she is willing to do what must be done to defeat the enemy and protect her family and country, not to mention Queen Elincia. After the story’s end, she moves her family to the Crimean capital of Melior, both to be close by in the event of trouble, and to provide for her family better, leaving behind her village, but never forgetting them. We also know that unlike her friend Brom, she was always ready to help, and that many times she went back onto the battlefield to protect all she loved.
Tilling the land, they say, builds strength of character, and being the main worker and helping her mother take care of the family has made Nephenee strong and reliable. Quick to help her friends and family, she will defend them at a moment’s notice. Though it’s not to say she enjoys fighting, but she knows it is needed at times- a realistic pacifist, as it were. She is a calm individual, and rarely complains; while Brom complained about the hardships of marches and army rations, she merely shrugged and told him they would get used to it. Strong of will and brave (in battle mostly), she refused to give in to despair during their imprisonment, and was ready to fight shortly after being rescued. This seems to reflect her positive attitude a bit, and she easily reassures those she calls friend, which, despite her introversion, she seems to make quickly. And despite what it seems, she is far from stupid, quickly figuring what to do in battle and practical things. She is a bit ignorant and naive though, having little or no official schooling. What little schooling she does have is either entirely self-taught, or from her parents, so she has about a 5th grade reading level, if that, and a basic knowledge of arithmetic, but not much more on the education of such things. She’s just a simple girl who has farmed for her livelihood, after all.
On that note, Neph demonstrates a lot of dependability and responsibility than one might expect from one her age in the modern era. Most of this seems to come from being forced to grow up very fast in order to help her mother with not just her siblings, but the farm, which is their livelihood. We know ingame that her mother is alone in raising the kids without her there, and this is because her father passed away around 8 years before Radiant Dawn of illness.
Suddenly being the eldest child of the family (which is 7 people strong), she quickly took the reins and helped her mother with the farm, and, when she was old enough, taking over many of the duties her father had. While she has the help of her siblings, they are all young, the triplets being 9 as of RD, so she is the primary breadwinner for them, as it were.”
So Nephenee was at the beginning of her time in Equestria, and while many things still hold true, many others do not. To start out with, she is still a responsible, hardworking, down-to-earth woman who is loyal to those she calls friend, and quick to defend them. She is also still stubborn and tenacious, as befitting one with the title ‘Relentless
HalberdierSentinel’, but on the flipside is a very kind, caring person, who does occasionally know that she needs to step down. These have grown in her time here and abroad, and changed alongside her. Nephenee has taken on more responsibility, becoming the ‘face’ of the Commune after Luna stepped down to create the Night Market, as well as becoming a teacher at the Lone Mountain Dojo, while at Rakuen, she became a prefect, helping to oversee students and enforce the rules. This seems to be a pattern for her, much to her chagrin, starting even in canon, when Yeardley tried to incite a rebellion in her hometown. She, not Brom or another, was the one that took up arms first, informed Brom of their plight, and made the decision to travel to Melior to inform the Queen. If asked, though, she’d say it was “doin’ what had to be done”. For a long time, Nephenee did not feel comfortable, nor capable, of leading others, but, despite that, she’s always tried, and spoilers, she’s actually pretty good. Not out of being a natural-born leader by any stretch, but out of purely trying her hardest, genuinely caring about those affected, and learning to delegate to those best suited for tasks. Oh, and stubbornness. There’s an underlying stubbornness to Nephenee, forged in the fires of war and hardships, that, while not immediately apparent like some, makes the difference in her attitude. She hates the thought of giving up, and will try whatever she can to make something work. That being said, she is wise enough to know when to exercise a tactical retreat, which isn’t the same thing exactly, in her head. This stubborn streak also reflects her strong heart, a spirit that would be extremely difficult to break, if it is possible. Heck, it’s a reason she wasn’t petrified when Ashera enacted her judgement on Telliusthat, and being a plot bunny. True, she can get a bit depressed at situations, especially when she feels she can’t do anything to fix things, but she’s learned she can lean on her friends to help her through these times. Which...is definitely something that’s changed in her time here...like a lot of things. In fact, it’s easier to reiterate that, while she has some things that are still the same, there are probably more things that have changed. In the beginning of her time in Equestria, Nephenee preferred to keep a bit more to herself; while she was friendly, she had a lot of trouble truly opening up, and her self-esteem was...well, it was better than it was in Path of Radiance, but that’s hardly saying much. There was a lot of underlying issues she didn’t realize were there, and wouldn’t for a few months after her arrival. There was also more submissiveness, and less joy and life - she wasn’t exactly stoic, but she certainly kept a wall up. Now being in a land of colorful ponies and a world fueled by friendship, that wall got chipped at, a lot. Her first friends included Bertie and Utsusemimaru, who helped pull her out of her comfort zone little by little. Which, considering how well Nephenee does outside of that comfort zone (read: not very), is somewhat of a miracle. Eventually, after Nightmare Night’s event, she started opening up a bit more, as she started training with others, but it wasn’t until the Shadow event that she changed the most. As Shadows tend to be stronger depending on how bad the issues in the person have gotten, and how long they’ve festered, Nephenee’s was..well, a piece of work. It had a dual nature to it: part of the time it could manifest as weakness, extreme self-doubt, and brokenness, and other times, it preyed on what was a hidden, powerful dislike of herself, to the point it lured her friends to watch her be broken further. As many who have faced theirs, Neph didn’t want to believe that this was part of her, and it nearly got her friends seriously injured. In the end, after snapping from her stupor and buying the others a chance to gang up on it with a well-placed helmet throw, and ashamed of how bad things had gotten, she tearfully accepted those parts of herself, and with acceptance came a lot of progress. Enough that when she was asked out not long after, she actually said yes, for once realizing she might actually be worth that sort of attention. Over the next few months, the Sentinel started opening up to others, becoming happier, and even developing a sense of humor, to the point where she’s made friends with...roughly half the game. I wish I was joking, but the Hearth’s Warming list says I’m not. Strangely, for awhile after, she still tried to claim she was an introvert and shy, but this is mostly from her self-awareness being...not that great. She also learned to not be quite so reckless, after a couple of incidents where she landed in the hospital from sheer hardheadedness, thanks to friends, rightfully, getting onto her. All told, before her first update, Neph had taken a lot of steps forward in her growth, and was, honestly, pretty darn happy.
Annnnd then Rakuen happened. Hoo boy, did it happen. Without her memories of her trials and friendships in Equestria, Nephenee went back to being more quiet and submissive, even with being a teacher there, and while she had a few friends, the place took a toll on her. Thanks to the punishments they suffered at losses (and she lost a lot due to not being skilled with other weapons like she was in Equestria), she’s gained a bit of a ‘triggery’ response to failing at things, oftentimes getting a psychogenic headache from it, and...well, to say she’s sensitive to memory issues is putting it lightly. Despite her normal courage, she’s honestly afraid she’ll lose those memories, and her memory of Equestria, again, which terrifies her more than a lot of things, as well as what place she has here. Due to wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey shenanigans, when she returned to Tellius the second time, she’d been gone for roughly two years, and that took a toll of its own, with the world having moved on and the troubles a soldier disappearing brings. Tellius no longer feels like home to her; Equestria does. But even with all the steps back, she took a few steps forward in the rest of her time here, before Kalos. As stated, she got rid of most of her recklessness, and has come to terms with some of her past, and the fear it brought. She’s not completely whole yet, but she’s grown a lot. The final bit of growth recently came from dealing with the fallout from learning she might disappear again, where she learned to not fear the future, and, when she went to Kalos.
As to her time in Kalos, for a time, she was definitely down about posibly not seeing her friends again (Wibbly-Wobbly Timey-Wimey struck again, so she hadn't met Tails in MLJ yet), getting a bit better after winning the first badge, and snapping out of much of it when she talked to her friends about it one night, after accidentally transmitting her singing about wishing to return to her loved ones. The Nightmare event pitted her in second fight against her Shadow, or what looked like it, which strengthened her resolve and courage to get back to her loved ones, and to not give up on seeing them again.
So, tl;dr version: She’s gotten much stronger in her compassion and love for herself and others, but there’s still a lot of things to deal with.
Strengths/Weaknesses
- Physically, Nephenee is very healthy, in constitution, endurance, and strength. Due to working long, hard hours on the farm, and a lot of training during, between, and after the wars she was in, she is rather strong, stronger than many girls her age and size, and has gotten stronger during her time in Equestria. She also has a naturally high defense, and a fair bit of magical resistance.
- Sentinels are described in Radiant Dawn as elite Lancers, fully capable of using polearms in one hand with what seems to be a tower shield in the other, and of performing feats with them that make full use of their skill with them, as evidenced by their class skill, Impale. As one, Nephenee would probably be best described as an ‘expert’ with them (SS skill, the highest skill in the games), at least with most European styled ones. She’s also got some skill with other weapon types, along with some unarmed and improvised combat.
- Related to above, as a veteran soldier, Nephenee has a heightened sense of awareness to things around her, which could be described as a ‘battle-readiness’, almost all the time, in varying strengths. Intense training has taught her how to hear small noises, notice small details, and generally have good instincts, as well as really good reflexes.
- Mentally, she’s kind, loyal, and compassionate, as well as tenacious and stubborn, with a strong spirit. She’s also a bit more book-smart than she was before she came originally.
- In her original time in Equestria, Nephenee faced her Shadow during the Shadow Event, and in defeating it, obtained the Persona Pallas Athena. While she cannot normally summon the deity, with the gauntlet she gained in the dungeons, she is able to do so when she has it on hoof. Most of the abilities it has are support, or at least support based, and damaging attacks, in Persona and SMT tradition, cost HP to use, limiting them somewhat. Of course, all are subject to the 50% rule!
Below are her Persona’s specifics:
Pallas Athena [Strength Arcana. Resist Physical, Repel Pierce, Absorb Wind, Weak to Dark]
> Akasha Arts: Deals heavy Strike damage 1x to 2x to all foes. Medium HP cost
> Masukukaja: Raises Hit and Evasion in party for a short time
> Marakukaja: Raises party Defense for a short time
> Arms Master (passive): Halves HP cost for physical skills
> Unshaken Will (Passive): Protects user from mental ailments (Confusion, Fear, etc.)
> Reppu Strike: Moderate Slash damage plus a wind attack. Medium HP cost, slight SP cost
> Diarama: Moderately restores 1 ally's HP. Can be used outside of battle.
> Rallying Strike (Ultimate skill): Severe pierce damage to one enemy, and all allies gain a bonus chance to crit. Mid-high HP cost, High SP cost
After she returns from Kalos, the above list will officially apply to her.
- Being a farm girl, she’s skilled, in varying amounts, at many country skills, not to mention farming. Farming IS part of her special talent, after all.
- Being from Rakuen, she has a weapon form within her that can be retrieved with the use of a special glove, but NOT by herself. Her own glove is non-functional, so she cannot pull from others.
Weaknesses:
- The same stubbornness that is a strength at times, is a weakness at others. Circumstances when she was younger (losing her father and having to take over the farm, two wars, among some others) beat into her that others come first, even at her own disadvantage, and while this is a good thing in some ways, it does mean that she often has to have it pounded into her head to not do things such as work herself too hard.
- While her self-esteem issues have vastly improved compared to how they were when she first came to this colorful pony land, they still exist, often hiding underneath the surface to emerge when she’s under stress. There’s also a strong urge to not bother others with her problems.
- To the above, it should also be said that she is not exactly as self-aware as you might expect from a soldier. She has a good grasp of her physical capabilities, true, but when it comes to things like her accomplishments, looks, and other things that aren’t related to smacking something around or growing things, Neph gets embarrassed at praise or attention, believing they’re nothing worth so much fuss.
- As before, she is still very naïve when it comes to people, and it’d still be all too easy to take advantage of her kind and accepting nature and exploit it.
- Physically, her magic resistance, while high, is still her weakest stat, other than her ‘magic’ one. Due to her Persona, she also takes more damage from Dark attacks, and while she doesn’t get sick often, when she gets sick or wears herself out, it can take a bit to get her back up to snuff, because when she crashes, she crashes hard.
- A very large stumbling block for Nephenee currently is her memory bracelet from Rakuen, where ten memories were locked away, and unlocked with special charms. Until magic is developed or discovered to fix this, if charms are removed, she’ll lose the corresponding memories, more than likely, until they are put back on, which cause her to relive them. It’s more than a bit of a trigger for the Sentinel.
All the rest!
- The Wishblade, the strongest lance available in the Tellius Duology, that she gained from defeating Levail in the Tower of Guidance. It’s ranged to an extent, has a small Luck boost inherent to the weapon, and due to a blessing from the deity Yune, it’s unbreakable, and able to harm spirits.
- Daisy, her faithful dog. She won’t have any benefits from being a Pokémon for a time, since Stoutlands don’t have any natural attacks that aren’t basically what a standard dog can do.
- Chrysanthemum, the Ampharos
- Ohma, her Silver Lance
- Myrddin, the Lucario
She's got backups of her armor here, so she'd covered on the armor front.
Pony/Animal Type: Nephenee will be coming in as a Pegasus now!
Cutie Mark: Her Sentinel shield atop a brave lance and pitchfork
Pony Picture:
It's a little hard to tell with no scale, but she's a bit taller than most mares, and her muscles are very lithe, but strong.
SAMPLES
First Person:
[It's been a few days since the latest of the newpony disappearances, but there's been talk of rainbows appearing out of nowhere again. Maybe they'd returned? Or was it somepony new?
Well, that question is answered fairly quickly, as a fairly familiar pony is seen on the scrolls one again, only her head really showing. She grins sheepishly.]
Uh..hiya, everypony...Ah'm back. Sorry for worryin' y'all...but Ah'm fine! For those who don't know me, Ah'm Nephenee..Ah help run the Commune, though Ah kinda got pulled into another world for a bit. Ah'm back with my doggie, Daisy, an' we even got a few new friends now. Come on over, Chrys, Myri.
[A large, yellow, extremely fluffy sheep pokes her head in the frame, as does a steely blue diamond dog, both looking curiously at the sheet of 'paper'.]
This is Chrysanthemum [A bleat..was that an electric charge you just saw? Nah, probably nothing.], an' Myrddin [The dog takes after his namesakes well, barking happily with a wagging tail.]...we met in a place called Kalos, in one o'them worlds with Pokémon, so Ah'm the trainer for these two.
Uh..that ain't the only thing that changed, though...
[She pans the visual out, and the thing apparent to those familiar with her is...well, the wings she now has!]
Ah uh...seem to have wings now. Don't know why, but Ah do.
...If..somepony could help me learn to use these darn things, Ah'd sure appreciate it.
[She looks off-screen, rubbing the back of her neck, while one wing flares out without so much as a by-your-leave from her.]
...Somepony should really tell Cálice or whatever makes us be certain things here Ah'm a Sentinel, not a Pegasus Knight...
Third Person:
It's not often that one changes into something else...and it's quite another thing when you change into a variant of that something else and have to learn another set of limbs! But that is what Nephenee found herself doing during some downtime, one crisp winter afternoon. Sure, she'd acclimated to being a pony fairly quickly...but all of a sudden, the formerly grounded Sentinel had wings! By Celestia, she had WINGS. How the hay did that work?? She was a Sentinel, not a Pegasus Knight, or even a Seraph Knight!
Wait, no...she really didn't need to try to figure that out again. The last time, she'd given herself a headache Morgan'd had to knock out quick before it brought more trouble of its own, she'd racked her brain so hard. A sigh. Best not to question it...
Peering down from her perch not too far up on a roof, Nephenee frowned. There was a smattering of holes in the snow, each vaguely pegasus shaped, from past failures. But each was further from the last...clearly, there was progress being made here! Slowly, she was learning how to use these darned things...
Flaring out her new wings, beautiful and full of soft feathers, she gave them a test flap each, as she backed up. These new muscles felt so foreign...but they were as much a part of her as her billowy tail and strong legs, now. Oh, things were less complicated as an earth pony.
But since when had she ever let 'complications' get in her way?
With a shake of her head, the brand-new pegasus stopped, tensing her legs and wings for a moment...before charging, leaping off the edge...and for a few moments, as she pushed against the air rhythmically, it seemed she might actually have it!
All for fifteen seconds this time, before a crosswind hit her hard, sending her spiraling. "Hoooorsefeaaathe-!" FWOOMPH! A cloud of cold, fluffy snow exploded as she crashed into a deep snowbank, her kicking back legs and tail all that could be seen. "Gofhdrhit..." With a violent sneeze, Nephenee scampered out of her newest hole, and shook herself off. Woo, that was a bit chilly! At least she was naturally hot-natured...
Before she could get much chance to review what she'd done to try and pinpoint her error, her ears perked at a call of "Neph!", and she looked to the south to see one of the farmers waving to her. From here, it was plain to see there was a problem with their tool, and she smiled, calling back that she was coming.
Even if she'd not gotten much further today, there was always tomorrow.
